Post Holiday Detox

Holiday season is always a whirlwind. From gift shopping to holiday parties, across the world people have been celebrating the end-of-year holidays. After all of the excitement and high-energy from the holidays, we’re sure you’re in need of a holiday detox. Food, alcohol, local and distance travel, and lack of sleep have likely taken a toll on your energy for the new year. The first month of the year is the perfect time to reset and recover and get yourself into the right mindset to take on the remaining 11 months of 2018.

Spend some time alone – After being around people nearly non-stop over the past few weeks, alone time is never a bad idea. Self-care is important, too! Grab some of your favorite snacks, a movie you’ve been wanting to watch, and a hobby you love or would love to explore, and take some time for yourself.

Make wise food decisions – The holidays are famous for the constant over-indulgence of candies, cakes and other treats. The only way to combat the overeating that happened last year is to make healthy decisions in the new year. Make sure to eat your vegetables!

Get some fresh air – Though the air is crisp and chilly these days, and precipitation is a near daily occurrence, it’s still important to get some fresh air, when you can. A (careful) walk outside can help to clear your head and give you some needed peace, and exercise.

Write out some goals – They don’t have to be big goals, just things that you want to accomplish. Start small, and as you accomplish those things, add more. This can help take your mind off of stress or bad habits left over from the previous year and give you building blocks to make 2018 the best year you’ve ever had.

Check on friends and family – The holidays can be very hard for some people, and reaching out to someone you care about can have a great impact on their spirits, and yours. This is a great way to start the year off on the right foot, bringing joy to other people. It’s also a great way to continue the message of “good will towards men” we preach during the holidays.
